Abstract

|
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a multifactorial inflammatory skin disease as a result of interaction between genetic susceptibility and environmental factors. The treatment of recalcitrant AD and the prevention of AD is still challenging. Recent advances in the understanding of the actions and clinical evidences of moisturizers support that proper barrier strengthening therapy with moisturizers could prevent the development of AD and the frequency and intensity of flares of AD. Here, we have reviewed the pathomechanism of barrier dysfunction and clinical studies of barrier strengthening therapy of AD.
